“All In A Day’s Work” “Supposed To Be Surprised” – These Villa Fans Relish Key Man’s International Achievement

|

It was a mixed international break for our friends north of the border, as Scotland opened up the October international break with a 4-0 defeat to Russia at the tail end of last week, but there was certainly plenty of joy for Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn as they took victory over San Marino as the lull in real fixtures came to a close.

Having opened his international account for his country in the September 2019 Euro 2020 qualifying clash with Russia, he helped himself to a first half brace as they hosted San Marino in their second clash of the break.

The 24-year-old helped himself to the scoresheet in minutes 12, 27 and 45+1, to help them on their way to a much needed 6-0 victory as they brought a four game losing streak to an end. Despite their defeats, they still have a chance to qualify via the Play-Off route after the result.

With McGinn already being a clear fan favourite at Villa Park, the reaction to his performance wasn’t unsurprising at all.

With McGinn getting himself into their record books as he became the first player since Lawrie Reilly to hit a first half hattrick since 1952, we can certainly expect more press led guff about Manchester United’s alleged interest in him.
